WINE TOUR IN THE MOUNTAINS OF EPIRUS

After a 1½ hour drive, north of Ioannina we come to the typical wine-growing region of Epirus.

EXCURSION TO THE MYSTICAL RIVER
ACHERON
The Acheron River is located in southern Epirus and flows through the city of Glyki. In Greek mythology it was the "river of the dead" and the entrance to the underworld - to the Kingdom of Hades.
In addition to this historical significance, the Acheron is a unique natural beauty. The crystal clear water, which shimmers light blue and green, is of drinking water quality.
We drive to Glyki to a mountain spring that flows directly into the river.

METEORA MONASTERIES

GOAT'S MILK AND FETA CHEESE
First we visit a goat farm near the village of Paramythia.
In antiquity, cheese made from sheep's milk or goat's milk and matured in brine was made on the island of Lesbos in Greece.

However, its name feta (slice) did not become established until centuries after it was discovered in 1494 by an Italian traveler.
We learn something about the preparation of the typical feta cheese and we can also try different types of cheese.
With a glass of Retsina we enjoy the freshly prepared cheese together with fresh bread.

EXCURSION TO IGOUMENITSA
We drive to the city of Igoumenitsa. With over 25,000 inhabitants, it is the largest port city in northwest Greece.
Through its connection to Italy, Corfu and on Patras, the natural port of Igoumenitsa is one of the most important ports in Greece.
We walk along the harbor and then go to the busy downtown of Igoumenitsa and learn interesting facts about the Place and history
